A WHOLE New View...

If you are like me you like to read the news and the headline that grabbed my attention this morning when I turned on my computer was about cosmetic surgery and how they end up looking a little more weird than better/younger. So, being the sucker I am I scoped out the pics. Oh my!! It gave GREAT incite into NOT getting botox, cheek plumps etc. It re-newed my 'if you're 50 then look like it...don't look like you are 50 trying to be 35.'

Which also reminds me of why I'm teaching my kids (especially the girls) that we need to take care of our bodies to be healthy. I refuse to say 'to be skinny' etc. I've already had the opportunity to teach the girls that. When they see me getting ready to exercise I tell them it's so I can stay healthy. And, Bailey's repeated that: 'You exercise to stay healthy'.

Anyway...just some random thoughts. Seriously...the pics were...well..disgusting and I thought: 'So, what was the point of that?'.

That is excellent Leah. There is a difference in trying to be skinny vs trying to be healthy. I always feel this is an issue that we just ignore as Christians, but it is biblical to take care of ourselves and to (within reason of course) eat as best we can. Obviously I don't mean being a food nazi but it is a self control. It takes discipline and I've found when I am disciplined with my body it carries over into my spiritual life. So, thank you for teaching your girls especially in a day and age where processed and fast foods are so readily available. Haven't heard too many sermons on gluttony lately. :)

So true, Andrea! And, the verse about our bodies being the temple of Christ! We must take care of our bodies for Him.

I also believe it's stewardship. It is something God gave us. I can see people who struggle with some of the duties of serving the Lord because they are physically worn down since their bodies haven't been fueled and exercised correctly. Jim Elliot (missionary killed by Auca Indians) purposed to be physically fit so that he could serve the Lord to the fullest and would not be hindered by any physical limitations that were within his control. I like what Ann said too . . . it does carry over into your spiritual life. Thanks for teaching your girls a good view of it.

Thank you Leah! I pray that I will be teaching by what I say and by example! I say the same, lack of self control will carry over into your spiritual life. Growing in your spiritual walk means letting the Spirit grow and produce in you the fruits of the Spirit. Our world puts a stamp of approval on over eating because, "it's a special day", or "i did a workout today so..." or " it's my day off" or "I already screwed up , I might as well finish it right!" But in reality, there is no "day off" from obeying God's word. He doesn't say that because it's a "special day" you are free to have no self control and be a glutton. When you do have a "free day", who's on the thrown of your heart? Food or God? 1Cor.6:13,19-20 is always a good reminder!=) Sorry for writing so much! I just got done doing "Living Beyond Yourself" from Beth Moore and it was on the fruits of the Spirit. The self control part hit home with me, so I kinda get on a roll! I pray that Toriana will not have the same distorted view of her body as I have had of mine and that God will take any bad influence I have had on her and turn it around. I pray that what affects her life will be what He is doing in my life, not what has been in my life. Anyway! Thank you for your challenge and example!
