One Fishy...Two Fishy...Three Fishy...STOP!!!

So, Jason and I have been contemplating for a while now on getting the kids a pet fish. Why a fish? NO NOISE/LITTLE CLEAN UP ETC!!! Saturday night was the time. Jason then decided they could EACH get a fish of their own. (one tank). Well...I being the expert on pet fish...I had one in high school...okay...I had two as my first one died...picked out the tank and the kids picked out their fish. After they each picked out their fish and we got a worker to get the fish for us, I looked up and read the labels on either side of the tanks. 'Cold Water' 'Warm Water'. Hmmmm... Jake's fish was the only one from the 'Warm Water' side. Oh well. That's the one he wanted and so his fish would just have to adapt. We got the fish and got home. Jason (the technical one) was reading ALL the directions. I said, 'Are you kidding me? Just throw water in, turn the air bubble thing on, and throw the fish in.' 'Is that what you did with your fish?' 'Yes.' 'And did your fish live?' 'Well...for a couple months.' 'Well, this says they can live up to 14 years.' (I am laughing now remembering our conversation) So, we followed SOME of the directions and made the air bubble thing be on for 1/2 hour before putting our little fish in it. Then, they arrived in their new home. The kids and us are sooo excited! Off to bed they go. 3 hours after having the fish I come down and what do you know: Bailey's fish is DEAD! I yelled to Jason that we had to get her a new fish before she awoke Sunday morning. Early in the morning Jason went and bought her a new fish. She never knew (and still doesn't!). So, we are happy about all three fish swimming and getting along! Then, we awake Monday morning and what do you know: Bailey's new fish is DEAD! Floating on top. Tayler says, 'Why's her fish on top like that'. Daddy broke the news. She didn't cry. We told her we'd get her a new on after school. So, after school we go back to Walmart again and I told her to pick a different one. So, she got the biggest goldfish with a ginormous mouth! Back home we go. Clean some of the water out (already murky) and add the new HUGE fish! Everything's looking pretty well, but I though Jake's fish was looking a little tired. I was hoping he was just getting ready to rest a while. After naps I come down and what do you know: Jake's fish is dead. The girls ask where Jake's fish is and I pointed to it and said, 'He's dead...don't tell Jake'. 'Okay'. I'm upstairs a little while later (I had yet to get the 3rd dead fish out) and I hear Bailey and Jake talking. Jake said, 'My Pishy (fishy)'. Bailey said, 'Yeah. He's dead.' 'Oh.' So, I came down and told Jake his fish is dead. He wasn't too heartbroke. I told him we'd get him another Pishy. So, again I get the net out and get the dead fish out and throw him in the garbage. Then, I'm talking to Mom and telling her the third dead fish and Bailey says, 'No, it's two'. Oh...right. We didn't tell her about her first dead fish. Rather comical. I laugh because here we picked fish for an easier time and we've been at the store getting more fish than I thought we would. Hope you enjoy our fish story. I'll let you know if any more die. We have yet to replace Pishy (Jake's named his Fish that). I hope Tayler's doesn't die. She may have a nervous breakdown!

That is a super funny story, Leah. You got me laughing pretty good. Maybe you shoule cut a fish out of a magazine and see if that works better.

Oh the life of pets. Well, you made my day! Hope you enjoy them. We too had tried fish when the kids were small. Only Cali decided to feed the fish and gave them the whole bottle of fish food. Katrina came home from school and what did she find. Dead fish. Boo! We still have the big aquairium but no fish. I think Cali was 4 years old. So, she was 'thinking' she was helping out!!

Great story! I laughed out loud. Especially Bailey correcting you that it was only 2:). Haha!! We had fish for awhile and had to do some replacing, so it definitely wasn't a permanent thing in our house.

Hey! It's not my fault they died. Tayler's fish is really the killer shark!
