This Sunday at church was very very encouraging to me. Robert spoke this morning on the real meaning of Christmas. That we each have a personal story to share with others about how God works in us and lives in us. Then Kevin followed it up with how he desires for his children to know the real meaning of Christmas, not just the presents or the fun traditions...but to be forever affected by the REAL meaning. Which was so cool to me because that has been on my heart all season and even before the season: 'What can we (Jason and I) do so that our children don't just think of Christmas as presents/trees/lights/santa?'
I have yet to figure out a 'way' to go about it. Maybe there isn't necessarily a 'way'. However...I desire our kids to focus more on Him than on 'them'.
The message was a very cool 'God thing'. I LOVE how HE works!!!

I like this-this is majorly on my mind as a mom and as a children/family minister. One thing we did this year was a Let's Give Party at church in lieu of our usual party. http://www.craigan.typepad.com/lets_give_party/ It is a great thing to do with friends - from church, or neighbors that aren't in a faith community, or as a classroom party. The only thing the kids take home is a little craft project, but everything else is to give. Today we also did our Christmas pageant at a nursing home. It was so nice to do something beyond our church to encourage and make an impact.
That is a really neat idea, Alyssa! I'll look up that website. I did come up with an idea that the kids are excited about: we are going to get a box and in the box we will write notes to God on what we each want to do for Him. And, we can put money in there as well. I'm praying this will help us all focus on HIM more. :)
